Istanbul Modern Entry
Turkey's flagship contemporary art museum, Renzo Piano building at Galataport.
Opened in 2004, Istanbul Modern was the first institution in Turkey dedicated to modern and contemporary art. It's a private museum run by the nonprofit Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, situated right on the waterfront inside the Galataport development in Beyoğlu.
The collection and rotating exhibitions showcase a mix of Turkish and international artists, giving a solid overview of the current art scene. The building itself, with its large windows, offers great views of the Bosphorus, which almost feels like part of the exhibition.
The museum cafe has a fantastic terrace with Bosphorus views; it's worth a stop even if you don't visit the exhibitions.
The museum is fully accessible with elevators and step-free access throughout, located within the modern Galataport complex.
